OAKLAND,
California -- The night time is the right time for Tim Hudson.
Hudson allowed three hits in eight innings to win his 13th night game and Eric Chavez hit a two-run homer as the Oakland Athletics opened a nine-game homestand with a 4-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
Hudson (16-7) yielded both runs, struck out five and walked none in improving to 13-2 with an league-leading 2.35 ERA in evening contests. He raised his career record against Baltimore to 5-0 and won his first home game since defeating Boston on August 8.

Chavez belted his 23rd home run of the season and ninth career blast against the Orioles in the fourth inning off rookie starter Josh Towers (8-9) to give Oakland a 2-0 lead.
Jermaine Dye and Terrence Long added RBI singles in the sixth for the Atheltics, who have won eight of their last nine games.
At 37-14, the A's have the best record in the majors since the All-Star break and own an 8 1/2-game lead over Boston and Minnesota in the American League wild card race.
Towers gave up all four runs and seven hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked one but has dropped eight of his last 11 decisions.
