High Desert Mavericks at Modesto A's
Weis Shuts Down Mavs, 8-3
Brad Weis won his league-leading 14th game of the season, allowing two unearned runs over seven innings in the A's 8-3 victory over the High Desert Mavericks on Friday night at John Thurman Field.
Shortstop Omar Quintanilla, in his first appearance in a Modesto A's uniform, collected two hits including a solo home run. Second baseman Mark Kiger added three hits and three RBI.
The A's victory coupled with a Bakersfield loss to Stockton on Friday night drops the A's magic number to 6. The Modesto A's will clinch a playoff spot when the combination of A's victories and Blaze losses equals six.
The series continues tomorrow night as A's right-hander Marc Sauer looks to extend the A's winning streak to five games.
