October 6, 2004: An Open Letter to KHTK 1140

Mr. Remy,

The BMTG believes that your self-proclaimed “KHTK, America’s #1 Sports Station” slogan is a fabrication of Ruthian proportions. While statistically you may be able to manipulate the numbers in attempts to prove your position, such details are of little importance to the BMTG. Your inability to broadcast any of the Major League Baseball games on the first day of the playoffs on October 5th was inexcusable. While replacing the late baseball game with the Monarchs playoff may have appealed to a miniscule segment of the audience, it was essentially the equivalent to three hours of dead air. “America’s number one sports station” chose to broadcast a game that is of limited interest over a game that will have millions checking their morning box scores. Either the loyalties towards the WNBA are mis-prioritized or KHTK lacks the broadcast muscle necessary to acquire the rights to broadcast the evening baseball game. As for the earlier games, only the latter explanation is possible, as there was nothing of any significant value to merit bypassing the playoffs.

Your inexplicable absence of any MLB playoff games comes on the heels of your misguided and short-sighted decision to break away from the final minutes of a hotly contested and tight Oakland Raiders opening day football game in order to broadcast a late regular season Monarchs game in its entirety.

If your number one ranking is accurate, then the second-place station must be broadcasting grade school pick-up games and church league flag football. Additionally, it should be noted, that Grant Napier's long running act as the chronically caustic, relocated New Yorker has run its course. While Napier can be moderately amusing when he is at his best, the Sacramento listeners would be best served if he returned to the East Coast where he could ramble on incessantly about the New York Giants and profess his superiority over his callers.

Due mainly to the egregious error of not broadcasting the MLB playoff games, the BMTG has decided to take the following actions:

Naturally, you may file an appeal at a cost of $3.00 if you disagree with this decision. See the BMTG’s website at usesoap.com for instructions on how to file and how long until your appeal is denied. Remember that the BMTG are the people you depend on. We cook your meals, we haul your trash, we connect your calls, we drive your ambulances, we guard you while you sleep, and we dance if we want to.

Sincerely,

(SIGNED BY THE BMTG BIG FOUR)
