January 25, 2005: ...His Name is Carl Cox

Eulogy read by The Diesel at Carl's funeral

Cousin CarlOn January 20, 2005, Cousin Carl passed away at the age of 40. Cousin Carl battled brain cancer for over 17 months while taking advantage of his remaining time enjoying exotic trips and telling everyone he loved how important they were to him. Cousin Carl never complained of his situation and even as he became too weak to sit up in bed, he retained the same wit and charm that drew people towards him. Cousin Carl was the one person that you would always look for at the party, call if you had an extra ticket, or could be guaranteed to laugh with regardless of the circumstances (like at a funeral). Those who met Cousin Carl liked him and those who knew him loved him. He was inexhaustible when it came to work, yet he always made sure that he had ample time to spend with his family and would help his friends without hesitation. Anyone would be fortunate to pass with just a fraction of the love, friendship, respect, and laugh-to-yourself memories that Cousin Carl left us with. The lights dimmed a little when Cousin Carl passed, but the memories he left us with will brighten us up when we most need it.

Cousin Carl came to California as a teenager and moved in with The Diesel's family while he attended college. Cousin Carl and The Diesel, who was three years younger, spent far too much time together. The bullets below are some of the more memorable, if not shameful, moments of their relationship. The story behind each of those bullets will be added at future dates.

Cousin Carl participated in many BMTG events over the years and had earned the rarely given status as an honorary member of the BMTG. With his passing, Cousin Carl is now a full-fledged member of the BMTG (see Pete Rose HOF Discussion) and entitled to all of the benefits that are included with the designation. Additionally, the BMTG will honor Cousin Carl this year by:

He requested that those attending his funeral on January 29th wear Hawaiian shirts instead of traditional black clothing. Cousin Carl wanted those attending his funeral to celebrate his life and try to enjoy themselves at his funeral.
