Holmgren
Might Be the Worst Coach Ever
From White Russian
On BMTG Madden Draft Day on Saturday, The Diesel declared Mike Holmgren and
Andy Reid as the two worst coaches at clock management. On Sunday, Holmgren
tried to prove he may be the worst coach ever. It is the 4th quarter, Seattle
is down by 18 with a little more than 9 minutes to go on 4th and 3 on their
own 34 yard line. Seattle runs fullback Leonard Weaver up the middle on an
ill-conceived play for a gain of 2 yards. New Orleans is unable to capitalize
on the great field position and punts it back to Seattle after burning only
about a minute off the clock, covering up what was a horrible play call by
Holmgren on the 4th and 3. Later, down by 11 at the 2 minute warning, Seattle
has driven the ball to the New Orleans 15 yard line. After 2 incomplete passes,
it is 3rd and 10. Seattle runs the ball up the middle with fullback Leonard
Weaver for a 1 yard gain. Curious call when you really need a quick touchdown.
But it gets stranger when Holmgren goes for it on 4th and 9 from the 14. The
pass to the end zone is incomplete and the Saints run out the clock after
taking over on downs with just over a minute left. Not only was it a horrible
3rd down call that cost them precious time, but Holmgren did not even give
his team a chance to win. Needing a touchdown, two point coversion, and a
field goal to tie, why not kick the field goal on 4th down, then go for the
onside kick? Instead of trying to win, he gave up.
Parcells and Romo Hot Tub Moment
“Parcells, after he steps away, is still in Dallas, he’s in the
hot tub one day at the facility. Romo comes in. They’re in the hot tub,
and Parcells says to Romo, they’re talking about Tony’s future,
he says to Tony, ‘Don’t let good enough be good enough.’
And those words ring in Tony’s ear.”
Al Michaels (9/2/07)
Where will Cal end up at the end of the season? (Prediction made after their first loss, when they had a shot at being the number 1 team in the nation after LSU lost.)
White Russian – #4
Brother Nature – #3
Diesel – #14
Sandman – #6

3. What are your draft day predictions?
White Russian Marshawn Lynch will have a better season than Adrian Peterson. Brady Quinn gets caught with a prostitute. Brother Nature Leon Hall shocks everyone and kicks ass. Diesel Ginn plays 3 games. Quinn outperforms JaMarcus Russell.* Sandman Adrian Peterson is Rookie of the Year. * Diesel maintains that he said Quinn outperforms Russell, but there are conflicting accounts of the official prediction, as it is possible that he said the "Detroit rookie QB" (Drew Stanton) would outperform Russell. Let this be a reminder to mean what you say and say what you mean.
